I am originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico and grew up in a suburb of Virginia near Washington, D.C. Spanish was my first language and English is now my dominant language; I also communicate in French and Italian. I love language learning and know how difficult and rewarding it can be.
I earned my Masters in Teaching: Foreign Language Education from the University of Virginia and hold a professional teaching license with endorsements to teach English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL), Spanish, and Math.
In the last ten years I have taught Kindergarten—12th grade students and adults English through the content of music, math, and academic ESOL in Italy, Morocco, and the United States.
From my experience and training I use best practices in language learning to help students acquire the language and check for understanding. Some of these practices include direct vocabulary instruction using visuals, interactive tasks, and Total Physical Response (TPR). I bring a lot of energy and encouragement to my students and I am looking forward to helping you meet your language goals!
