I love teaching English language, literature, and writing!
I have a degree in secondary education in English from Millersville University in my home state, Pennsylvania, a school recognized for its excellence in teaching teachers.
My first three years of teaching were in a private high school that had a boarding program for international students. I was a live-in dormitory advisor and an English teacher. I taught academic writing during the day, then did homework with ELL students in the evening. I helped them to connect their American schoolwork with their home cultures. We laughed a lot.
To become better writers, I use cooperative revision circles, reflective free writes, and mentor texts. To become better readers, I use book circles, visual projects, playwriting and acting, song-writing, recitation, and comprehension strategies to eventually arrive at analysis. To structure my lessons, I use Understanding by Design so that we always have goals in mind.
For the last two years, I have taught English literature full time in Morocco occasionally tutoring sixth grade math.
I’m sure we’ll teach each other a lot!
